National Advisory Boards

National Advisory Boards (NAB) have been developed in Cyprus and Greece, composed by experts in the main areas of the ENGINITE project (Engineering, PBL, and Industry); the members of NABs were asked to provide feedback in all critical stages of the ENGINITE project. 

NAB of Cyprus: 

  • Mr. Savvas Savvides is a freelance engineering consultant, having taken early retirement from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in September 2012. For 5 years, he was the Head of the Nicosia Annex and member of the Board of Governors of CUT. Previously, for almost 20 years he was Head of Department at the Higher Technical Institute (HTI) after a career of almost 15 years in teaching. Additionally, he served as a member of the Board of Governors of HTI. He was appointed Visiting Fellow (2006-2013) at the University of Glamorgan and worked as Physical Plant Consultant (2006-2009) of the Cyprus Institute (high level research Institute). At his early career stage, he served as a trainee Engineer at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and Senior Electrical Engineer at E.Wingfield Bowls and Partners (Cyprus).
  • Dr. Despo Ktoridou is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Management & MIS Department at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus. Dr. Ktoridou holds a B.Sc. (1991), M.Sc. (1993) In Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. (2000) in the field of Expert Systems from Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University in Russia. Dr. Ktoridou has worked as a Senior Computer Engineer for different organizations in Cyprus (1992 – 1999), from 2000 – 2007 as an Assistant Professor of Educational Technology and currently as an Associate Professor of MIS at the University of NicosiaDr. Ktoridou’s research focuses on areas of ICT Innovations: integration in education, ICT Strategic management, Social Technologies: social networking in education/business, Pedagogies in Higher Education: Innovative Teaching /Learning Processes. Dr. Ktoridou has presented papers in numerous refereed international conferences and has published several papers in refereed journals. Dr. Ktoridou participated in EU and local funded programs and has been invited by foreign universities as a guest lecturer.
  • Mrs. Elena Kalli is currently a Youth Officer at the Youth Board of Cyprus, in Nicosia and she’s responsible for the National Agency of the “Youth in Action” programme. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece, a MSc in European Politics and Governance from the London School of Economics and Political Science in United Kingdom as well as MA in Comparative Culture and Literature from University of Cyprus. Focusing on her work experience she has previously served as an English Teacher (Ministry of Education and Culture) as well as a Foreign Affairs Officer in Ammochostos Municipality.

NAB of Greece: 

  • Dr. Athanasios Stasinakis holds a PhD degree in Environmental Science. Since 2016, he is Associate Professor at the Department of Environment, University of the Aegean (Greece) and Director of Water and Air Quality Laboratory. In parallel, he is teaching at Greek Open University (MSc Program of Waste Management). Dr Stasinakis has significant research experience in the field of wastewater engineering, as well as in environmental analytical chemistry and ecotoxicity of micropollutants. So far, his research activities resulted in more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals, (h-factor: 26, citations>2000). He has supervised 3 completed PhD Theses and 45 completed Master Theses. He has been engaged as member or as coordinator in 19 national or international research projects. He is member of the editorial board of two peer-reviewed journals. He is reviewer and evaluator of international and national research proposals / grants for Romanian National Council for Development and Innovation, Israel Science Foundation, Czech Science Foundation, Greek Secretary of Research and Technology, Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
  • Mr Konstantinos A. Fareas holds a Diploma of Mining & Metallurgical Engineering (1983, NTUA). He works in DELPHI – DISTOMON Mining Company (Extraction of Bauxite–Underground and Open Pit Mines) for the last 29 years. In 1989 – 2000 he was responsible engineer for Production (he supervised 8 underground mines, Open-pit mine and 1 Quarry -45 persons). Since 2000 he is responsible for Continuous Improvement (in: Health- Safety Ergonomy – Economy –Best Practices etc., training and leading more than 40 workshops: 5S, CEDAC, PDCA, GPS, SMED etc). He is trained as BLACK-BELT by PECHINEY and ALCAN. Since 2008 he is Safety Engineer and responsible for the Certifications (ISO 14001 – OHSAS 18001). He is trained as Inspector for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. He is also training all employees and subcontractors of DELPHI-DISTOMON in Health and Safety subjects (over 1000 training hours per year). Since 2010 he is Member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee for MYTILINAIOS Co (Environment, Safety and Training). Since Jan. 2017 he is responsible for ADR transports.
  • Mr Ioannis Aspirtakis holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Occupational Safety. He works 16 years as HSEQ Group Manager in multinational manufacturer and he also owns a consulting firm for more than 12 years. Mr Aspirtakis has great experience in Occupational Safety and Risk Management, identification and risk assessment related to OHS, business interruption and sustainability consulting. His expertise includes carrying out risk audits for clients, in order to identify risks and establish risk mitigation strategies. He has been responsible for the development and management of HSE-Q management systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, EMAS, ISO 9001) for chemical, construction and other companies around the world (Greece, Turkey, Romania, Poland, France, China and more). He works also as Lead
    Auditor for OHSAS and ISO Management Systems for more than 8 years in cooperation with worldwide certification bodies (SGS, TUV NORD). He has great experience in development of Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) systems for various industries and business sectors and has great training skills delivering more than 1000 training hours in clients around the world.
